The 3rd Technical Meeting of the project FRESHNESS – Promoting Energy Efficiency and Conservative Water Use towards a Low Carbon Urban Freshwater Supply, under the Interreg VI-A Greece–Cyprus 2021–2027 Programme, was successfully held on 26 and 27 May 2026.
The meeting was hosted at the Kos Municipal Hall and took place in a hybrid format, allowing participation both in person and online.
Participants were welcomed by representatives of the Municipality of Kos and DEYA Kos, highlighting the importance of cross-border cooperation in addressing the contemporary challenges related to sustainable water resource management and energy efficiency.
During the two-day meeting, the progress of the project’s Work Packages and Deliverables was presented, administrative and financial matters were examined, and a detailed discussion took place on the results of the current situation analysis in the intervention areas. In parallel, partners presented the methodologies and technical tools being developed within the project, with the aim of implementing and evaluating innovative solutions for water and energy savings.
Particular emphasis was placed on the progress of the pilot actions, the initial results already achieved, and the technical adjustments required to optimise their implementation. Through constructive discussions and the exchange of experiences, partners agreed on the next steps for the effective implementation of activities and the achievement of the project’s objectives.
As part of the meeting, a technical visit was also carried out to the facilities of DEYA Kos, offering participants the opportunity to become acquainted with the area’s water management infrastructure and practices, and to discuss ways of applying the project’s results under real operating conditions.
The 3rd Technical Meeting concluded with the definition of a joint roadmap for the next phase of project implementation and with the reaffirmation of all partners’ commitment to continuing their close cooperation in promoting sustainable and innovative solutions for urban water resource management.
The FRESHNESS project is co-funded by the European Union (ERDF) and national resources from Greece and Cyprus, under the Interreg VI-A Greece–Cyprus 2021–2027 Programme.
The project’s primary objective is to enhance energy efficiency and rational water use throughout the urban drinking water supply chain. Through the development and implementation of innovative methodologies, tools and pilot actions, the project contributes to reducing the environmental footprint of water supply systems and strengthening their resilience against the challenges of climate change and the energy crisis.
